Description
William Joseph Pope was born in 1893, in Rata, New Zealand, and enlisted in about 1916. He served with the Auckland Infantry Regiment, having left Wellington on the 13th October 1917, aboard the Arawa, as a member of E Company, 30th Reinforcements. At the end of the war William Pope returned to Hamilton, where he married Doris Barlow on Christmas Day 1922. He died in June 1927 and is buried in the Hamilton East cemetery.
