Description
Officers and men of the newly commissioned anti-submarine frigate HMNZS Waikato on parade. They were receiving the Charter of the Freedom of the City of Hamilton. The function was held at the Hamilton City Council Municipal offices in Worley Street. At the left is the T & G Mutual Life Society insurance building in Alexandra Street. The Hamilton Public Library was housed in the left wing of the Council building. There are many observers, navy personnel and a band. The banners relate to the 'adoption' of the ship by the Waikato branch of the Crippled Children's Society.
