Description
P.J. Gibbons, lecturer in history at Waikato University, was commissioned in 1973 by Hamilton City Council to write a history of Hamilton from 1864 to the present day. "Astride the river" was published by Whitcoulls in 1977. The papers held are the preliminary forms of the published volume, originally entitled "A history of Hamilton" and research papers which Gibbons prepared for Hamilton City Council.
