Object Detail

Description
Ellis & Burnand Ltd's head office was on the corner of Victoria Street and railway land where Claudelands Road now runs. The railway track is just visible in the foreground. The building was occupied by the hardware & timber merchants from 1921 to 1953. The small dark building to the right is the railway crossing keeper's hut. On the approach of a train the crossing keeper would step onto Victoria Street with a large STOP sign to prevent any traffic crossing the line.
