This photo has gone a bit viral recently on the old Facebook! They're reckoning it's Victoria Street near the Fairfield Bridge turn-off. Older folks remember the road was widened when the traffic lights were put in, which may have been when this stone retaining wall was replaced with concrete. One detail that stands out is the fire hydrant set in the footpath. There is a modern one in a similar position on the footpath in the Victoria St location today.

Hi Al, Thank you for your comment. I have tried this morning to find a photograph that might verify the idea that this is Victoria St. None of them has a stone wall. I wonder if it may be Memorial Drive towards Anzac Parade. There is a stone wall there and the ascending ground is more gradual as in this photo. Trees have since overtaken the area? Would be interested to know what people think.
