Description
This is the Grey Street saddlery business of James Reid which he purchased in May of 1887, taken at the same time as HCL_02330 but from a slightly different position. The store was near the southwest corner of Grey and Clyde streets. Reid opened a branch of this business on Victoria Street in 1890. Visible in the background are the Bank of New Zealand building and the Waikato Argus building. Reid was formerly a Major in the New Zealand Staff Corps. He was also a very competent amateur photographer. Also visible in the image are horses and a cart or dray
