Thank you John. Yes, there were terrible drainage issues in Victoria Street for many years. Also, Thomas Maunder had several discussions with council but mostly over drainage and roading and dust in Victoria Street.

Alexandra Buildings included cellars (see https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WAIGUS19030327.2.6) and Thomas Maunder was soon complaining about the poor drainage flooding cellars (see https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WAIGUS19051013.2.20.9).
