Description
Hugh Kenneth McDermott was born in 1896, the second of three sons of Martin Phillip and Jane Eliza McDermott of Cambridge. In civilian life he was a bank clerk. He enlisted as a Trooper with the New Zealand Mounted Rifle Brigade, and on 8 January 1916 he embarked on the Maunganui, bound for Suez. Hugh McDermott survived the war, and died at North Shore, Auckland in 1981.
