Description
Murdoch McKinnon, born 1896, was the youngest of four brothers who served in World War I, the sons of Donald and Margaret McKinnon of Kaipaki. In civilian life he was a farmer. He enlisted as a Gunner in the New Zealand Field Artillery, and embarked on the Turakina on 26 April 1917, bound for Plymouth. He was killed in action on the Somme on 14 March 1918, and is buried in the Divisional Cemetery at Ieper.
