Description
Philip Pile was born in Devon, England, and when he enlisted was living in Hamilton at Bettley's Boardinghouse, which was run by Charlotte Bettley. His rank on enlistment was Second Lieutenant. He embarked from Wellington with the 8th Reinforcements, on 13 November, 1915, his unit being the Otago Infantry Battalion. On 30 December 1918 he married Lottie Bettley. Lottie died in 1949 and is buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery. We have so far been unable to find a record of Philip's death.
