Description
Jean Batten flew into Te Rapa Aerodrome where she was received by a crowd of about 200 people. She was welcomed by the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr JR Fow. Later she attended a reception in her honour which was arranged by the Lyceum Club and other women's organisations. Here she met Dr Mary Douglas who, at the time, was the Waikato's only woman pilot. Pictured from left to right are, an unknown gentleman; Dr Hockin; Dr Mary Douglas; Jean Batten, holding a kitten; Mr JR Fow; Mrs JR Fow; and in front is JR Fow's dog, Horace.
