Object Detail

Description
Work on lowering the railway in progress at Hamilton Railway Station. The train used to cross Victoria Street causing traffic disruption. A tunnel was made and the railway lowered. A new bridge replaced the old railway one which became the Claudelands Traffic Bridge. In the background at the left is the Horse Bazaar with the MLC building visible above. The building in the centre is the Hamilton City Council chambers with the Hamilton Technical College on the right. There are many cars at the station and several in the foreground which could belong to the workers.
