Description
Hand-painted ceramic tiles depicting landscape scenes wrap around the Central Library's entrance pillars. Scenes and images from the Waikato, including rivers, lakes, and birds, form narratives of the environment. This artwork was commissioned for the opening of the Library building in 1993.
Lynda Harris began working with clay in 1975 and became a full-time potter in 1984 in the Waikato, specialising in raku. She regularly exhibits throughout New Zealand, has been the recipient of grants and awards, and has work in many collections.
Materials: Ceramic tiles
Some of these tiles are currently covered, and protected behind an aluminium wrap. If you wish to explore the images in more detail, they are able to be viewed on Level 3 of Central Library, email heritage@hcc.govt.nz to book a time.
