Object Detail

Description
Hamilton's Free Public Library, known as the Carnegie Library, probably within a few days of opening. The flag on the left was flying for the opening. A young girl in Edwardian costume walks north along Victoria Street. The photographer is at the foot on the slope of Garden Place hill. Commonly known as the public library, the building was inscribed in plaster on the frieze below the pediment with the title "Free Public Library" signifying the condition of the Carnegie grant.
