Description
Looking about a little west of due north. The new terminal building officially opened in 1966. To the left is the 'shop' counter with the canteen or cafeteria facilities on the left and retail - chocolate, barley sugars, chewing gum, cigarettes - on the right. Next is a display window used by city stores for advertising. This window is used by H & J Court Ltd (a Hamilton Department store) currenty advertising Fieldcrest bedding goods. A family group sits eating ice creams. The atrium is a light shaft with a small garden within. Sand pots in stands are all about the seating areas for smokers to extinguish cigarettes. On the tables in the lounge area are ashtrays. A sign in the distance on the far right advertises NAC ( National Airways Corporation) which merged with Air New Zealand in 1978.
