Description
This image is from a Cartwright postcard and says "1st conveyance to cross Hamilton Traffic Bridge". The photo was taken on 10 September 1910, the day the bridge opened. The Traffic Bridge spans the Waikato River in Hamilton, New Zealand. The driver of the horse-drawn vehicle is Father Joseph Croke Darby. The identity of his passenger is unknown. The old Union bridge is visible through the lattice work and close inspection shows a horse and buggy travelling to Hamilton East. The two-storey house in the background was Thomas Slade's which was near the southern corner of Grey Street and Bridge Street.
