Description
Library building was opened in 1908 to house Hamilton's first free library. Known as the 'Carnegie Library' due to a grant from the Carnegie Foundation. The library moved to the new municipal building in 1960 leaving this building vacant. It was used, for a time, as a 'Lions Club Opportunity Shop' raising money for charitable work. It was demolished in 1961. On the right is the Chief Post Office opened in 1940. Built by W.B.Young it features a signifcant dome of 1600 plus glass lenses. N Z Post sold the building in 1990. Now a casino. The carpark on the right was within Garden Place.
