Object Detail

Description
The Auckland-Waikato railway was the first section of what became the North Island Main Trunk. This first part of the line ran from Point Britomart to Onehunga via Penrose. According to New Zealand Railways magazine "The train was hauled by a class "F" locomotive named "Ada" - after Mrs. Henderson wife of the local representative of the contractors, Brogden and Sons. The driver of the train was Mr T O'Brien and the fireman Mr W Granger". Two six wheel coaches comprise the train. First class compartments are at the inside ends. The outer ends of both coaches are second class. Text above the image says it was presented by Mr. W. Baker, Senior, late of Newstead. The image was enlarged by Camera House.
