Object Detail

Description
During 1983-1984, Teachers' College lecturer David Fowler initiated a 6-week lecture series at the Waikato Art Museum, on aspects of Creative Design. The lectures formed part of a pilot educational programme offered by the Ministry of Education, for presentation to adult audiences in museums and art galleries. Architecture was one of the topics. Local architect Barry Rae lectured on significant residential and commercial buildings in the Waikato. Many of the images in this collection were taken during weekends, when the two men drove around the region locating examples to use in the lectures. The collection comprises 775 coloured images of buildings taken in Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. Each slide includes the name of the building and the photographer's name. Some also show the building's date and architect. The buildings photographed cover a wide range of types: historic buildings such as Greenslade House, ordinary residences, commercial premises, offices, schools, churches, Waikato University, Waikato Hospital, farm buildings, marae, tearooms, council buildings, railway stations and factories.
