Description
The Highland Band leads the 6th (Hamilton) Company, National Military Reserve south along Memorial Drive. The 6th Company - comprised of World War I veterans - was formed in 1939 and placed under the command of Major L.E. Haines DSO. They left for Home Service on Great Barrier Island on the 11th of December 1941. They were discharged during 1943 but reunited annually until December 1976. The remainder of the Company's social fund was handed over to the "Sunningdale" RSA Veterans Home.
