Description
This Baptist Church stood on the northeast corner of Victoria and London streets. The site then became the location of the State Theatre, later the Carlton Theatre. It is now Bayley's Real Estate. The church opened November 11, 1906. It is thought to have been removed in the late 1920s, when it was placed behind the new Baptist Church on London Street to be used as a Sunday School. The sign indicates the Pastor was Rev Harold G Hercus and the church held Sunday services at 11am and 7pm, Sunday School at 2.30pm and a mid-week service on Wednesday at 7.30pm. The sign also says "Evenings at King's Theatre at 7". Since it was first built, several additions have been made as at this photo, including finials on the gateposts and a light suspended from an iron arch.
