Object Detail

Description
The Bank of New Zealand's manager's garden on Hood Street. In those days bank managers lived on the premises, a practice that was common to all trading banks from the 19th century that continued into the 1970s in some towns. Later the upstairs quarters were occupied by lower-ranking bank staff or caretakers.
