Description
This photograph shows Turners & Fows Ltd, Fruit and Produce Market. JR Fow, long time councillor and mayor of Hamilton, owned the businesses, Fows Furnishings and JR Fow Auctioneers. The auction business merged with Turners of Auckland (now Turners and Growers) and this new headquarters was purpose-built. In the years that followed, Fow Furnishings was sold off to Reid & Co, which was located in Collingwood Street and was later taken over by Farmers. The back of St Paul's Methodist Church can just be seen at the left of the photograph.
