Description
A front facing view of these buildings. On the ground floor of the Alexandra Buildings are S. R. Hawken Ltd., gents & boys outfitters, and The Dolly Varden, a confectionery and light refreshments establishment. Upstairs are Bennett & Simons land estate & stock agents and J.M. Horton, a solicitor. Hooker & Kingston Ltd. were drapers and appear to have occupied the entire building, originally the Imperial Chambers. The van on the right (typically American but probably a c. 1937 Ford) is a supplies and service van of The National Cash register of NZ Ltd.
