Description
Looking across Victoria Street to Garden Place Hill. United Insurance Co. Ltd is in the building on the left. Note the Ford sign above on the side parapet indicating the Ford Motor dealer along the lane. The lane is shown on some contemporary maps as 'Garden Place Road'. Also in business are MacBeans - Hosiery, Underwear, Gloves, Scarves and Handbags (occupying the shop on the corner), other signs further along the lane are clock & watch repairs - F.J. Marfell, D Bradley (Signwriter), JP Coulter. The car on the right across Victoria Street is possibly a 1935/36 Ford V8-60. Also visible in this image are men, power poles, trees, cars, and the stone retaining wall separating the hill from Garden Place Road (may not be an official name)
