Hi John, thanks for your comment. We haven't been able to find a date of demolition for the Royal Hotel, however the Waikato Times on July 1970 reports that a contract had been let that week for the construction of a new tavern behind the Royal Hotel. In a February 27th 1971 report, work was under way on the new building and it appears the Royal had already been demolished.

Was February 1971 the date of demolition of the Royal Hotel (see https://heritage.hamiltonlibraries.co.nz/objects/7696/royal-hotel-being-demolished and https://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/news/5996227/Long-time-pubs-squeezed-by-development), or did it still look like this in 1978?
