Description
The exterior of the derelict Hamilton gasworks retort. Gas came to Hamilton in 1895. The gasworks was situated between Clarence and Thackeray Streets. It closed in March 1970 due to the introduction of natural gas. The site was cleared and decontaminated in the early nineties. The water reservoir on Pembroke Street is just visible in the distance at centre right.
