Description
A copy of a head and shoulders portrait of a young man in World War 1 uniform. His collar badges show him to be a member of the 3rd (Auckland) Mounted Rifles, which saw action at Gallipoli, as part of the Auckland Mounted Rifles squadron, and also in Sinai and Palestine. The surname etched into the glass plate negative is Mason.

This is confirmed as 13/11 Hugh Townshend Boscawen, from Te Kuiti. He had seen previous service in the 2nd Anglo-Boer War, and was killed in action at Broodseinde, 4th October 1917. This photograph appeared in the Auckland Weekly News of 1/11/1917.
