Description
A view of Garden Place from the Chief Post Office. Buildings and businesses (clockwise from bottom left) include the Norwich Union Insurance Societies building; the Colonial Mutual Life (CML) building; Armstrong Motors, on the corner of Garden Place and Alexandra Street; the Hamilton City Council municipal buildings; the MLC building; the New Zealand Insurance Company Ltd building; the Dominic Buildings, which accommodated Niederer Studios Photographers; and the Hauraki Buildings which accommodated the Garden Place Butchery and the national children's clothing chain, Juvenile Band Box. Also visible is the Frankton water tower on Lake Road. Between the CML building and Armstrong Motors is an alleyway through to H&J Courts. The department store's front was on Victoria Street.
